Ferrari Blasts Off With New 390,000 EUR Car

Ferrari has dedicated more than 80 years to building sleek, two-door cars. For the first time in the company’s history, it plans to release a four-door model that looks surprisingly similar to an SUV.

Called Purosangue, which means “thoroughbred” in Italian, the new vehicle could signal that the highly respected luxury car company now has an interest in exploring concepts outside of its usual wheelhouse.

Purosangue is packed with high-performance technology

Ferrari is taking a slightly different approach with the Purosangue, but the car company remains focused on the features that matter most. The Purosangue comes packed with the high-performance technologies that fans expect.

The new model offers:

  • A 6.5-liter, V12, 715-horsepower engine.
  • 528 pound-feet of torque.
  • A top speed near 193 mph.
  • Reduced body roll thanks to electric motors located on the corners.
  • An all-new aerodynamic design that minimizes wind to emphasize control at high speeds.
Take this SUV-like vehicle anywhere you want. It can handle winding mountain roads and heavily trafficked city expressways. Need to merge in a hurry? It can go from 0 to 62 mph within 3.3, so you don’t have anything to worry about.

Interior comfort for up to four passengers

You probably can’t call the 2023 Purosangue an SUV, at least not in the American sense. It has seating for up to four passengers, which the average SUV buyer would balk at.

But this isn’t an average vehicle.

Every passenger gets bucket-style seating for maximum comfort. You won’t find a rear seat with room for a third person. This isn’t a family vehicle for long road trips. It’s made for adults who appreciate top-tier technology and respect the value of lumbar support.

Other interior features that stand out include:
  • Center consoles for the front and back seats.
  • An optional glass roof. (It comes standard with a lightweight carbon fiber roof panel.)
  • Ample driver controls situated right on the steering wheel.
Somewhat curiously, the upcoming Ferrari doesn’t come with an infotainment touchscreen. It also lacks the tablet-style center stack that has become so popular in today’s vehicles.

With some car companies, you could easily assume they didn’t include the screens to save money. That isn’t the case here. The Purosangue’s price starts at 390,000 EUR (about $375,000), and Ferrari has never skimped on luxury to save money.

Instead, Ferrari’s designers have made a choice that encourages you to enjoy the vehicle and the world around you. When you spend this much money on a car, you don’t want your backseat passengers staring at a screen. The vehicle is the entertainment.

Ferrari remains committed to style

This is the first time that Ferrari has built a four-door car. Casual observers might not notice the change, though.

Keeping with Ferrari’s commitment to style, the exterior design uses two front-hinged doors and two rear-hinged doors (also known as “suicide doors”). When all four doors are closed, you cannot see handles for the rear doors. This creates a subtle illusion that the Purosangue only has two doors.

Plenty of car designers and manufacturers have used this trick before. This feels different, though, because it pushes Ferrari toward a reimagined future without letting go of the past. It’s as if the company is saying, “We’re a two-door sports car company… even when we sneak in two extra doors.”

When can you expect to buy a 2023 Ferrari Purosangue?

Ferrari says that consumers can expect to see the Purosangue in showrooms before the end of 2022.

When can you expect to buy one? The answer to that is a little more complicated.

Even if you have the cash to buy this 390,000 EUR car, you have plenty of competitors who want to get in line ahead of you. Ferrari’s manufacturing facility in Maranello only has the capacity to build 15,000 cars per year.

According to Ferrari, it will build about 3,000 Purosangues per year for the next three to five years. With such a limited supply, you will need good connections to purchase the first run of this new vehicle.

In fact, you’ll be lucky if you ever get to purchase one. It has already attracted a lot of attention from Ferrari aficionados and new buyers just now taking an interest in the brand.
